History Talk and 1940s’ Tea
Join us for a living history afternoon. Based on the memories of local people, we recount the narrative of wonderful stories about Bude between 1939-1954, the ration years. One of the unique things about Bude was that US troops came here to train on our beaches for the D-Day invasion, and everyone we interviewed recalled: “Oh, and when the Americans came!”. We deliver an entertaining history talk which is followed by a proper 1940s’ recipe afternoon tea. Yes, spam and sandwiches and cakes made from WWII recipes, which are really quite delicious. A very unique and interesting afternoon.
